Nathan’s Famous is rolling back the price of its hot dogs to the original 5 cents, the same price as when Nathan’s opened in Coney Island in 1916.
The deal is Thursdays only, and only at the original Nathan’s Famous location, steps from the Boardwalk.
More Nathan’s 5 cent hot dog deals
Nathan’s Famous celebrated its 100th anniversary in May 2016 with 5 cent hot dogs.
And Nathan’s Famous offered 5 cent hot dogs again in 2020 to celebrate National Hot Dog Day.
Those were both one day deals. This one is one day a week for the forseeable future, although this is the first time an additional purchase is required.
This 5-cent deal requires the purchase of any regularly-priced item to get the 5 cent hot dog. We recommend Nathan’s Famous fries or a soda.
Since the deal is “any” regularly-priced item, if you order two things - such as fries and a soda - you are entitled to two 5-cent hot dogs.
There’s no limit. One cashier told NY eater she has seen customers walk away with as many as ten 5-cent dogs.
Throwback Thursdays is a great idea.
Recently, McDonald’s ran a promotion for a different item for 5 cents each Thursday for six weeks. People loved it.
According to NY Eater, this promotion was tested out at a Nathan’s test kitchen site in Yonkers, another location in Long Island, and at franchisees throughout the USA, which increased Thursday sales by as much as 50 percent.
It’s sure to do the same for the Coney island location on Thursdays.
So that makes Thursday a great day to visit Coney Island on the cheap. Rides are open, including the Cyclone and Deno’s Wonder Wheel. And the New York Aquarium is open.
Here’s the information you need to scoring tickets for rides.
