Krispy Kreme Times Square Now Open After Long Delay

POSTED BY
Evelyn Kanter

Krispy Kreme opening a store in Times SquareThe Krispy Kreme Times Square flagship store has finally opened after a yearlong delay.

It’s a is a one-of-a-kind doughnut theater, showcasing how the sweet treats are made, with a giant “glaze waterfall” that tumbles a sugary coating over freshly made donuts made around-the-clock, and a store where you can buy sweet treats, including a special Big Apple Donut.

The Krispy Kreme store is now open 24/7 at 1601 Broadway, at West 48th Street, in the heart of the Theater District.

As NYCOTC told you last year, Krispy Kreme Times Square was due to open in Fall 2019, but various issues delayed the opening until spring 2020, and then the Covid-19 pandemic shutdown delayed the opening until now.

“We’re filled with joy to share the sweet news that Krispy Kreme is opening in Times Square,” Michael Tattersfield, CEO of Krispy Kreme Doughnut Corporation, said in a press release.“We said earlier this year that when New York City and Times Square are ready, we’ll be ready.”

The Times Square flagship is a 4,500-square-foot store that features doughnuts, of course, plus an insider’s look at how the treats are made.

The store opening also demonstrates the brand’s commitment to expand its doughnut offerings in NYC.

What to Expect at Krispy Kreme Times Square

The store is a combination of theater and food, two things New Yorkers and visitors alike come to Broadway to experience.

The “theater” is a performance of the end-to-end doughnut-making process, from the mixing of raw ingredients to the conveyor belts that carry the sweet treats from station to station, to the two-foot waterfall of glaze that gives Krispy Kreme Original Glazed doughnuts the flavor and crunch so many of us love.

The flagship offers 16 different doughnut flavors on the menu, including the Original Glazed, Cake Batter, and Strawberry frosted with Sprinkles, along with cold bottled drinks and a full coffee menu.

There’s also one unique flavor available at this location only that pays homage to the store’s location in New York City.

It’s a special edition Big Apple doughnut, inspired by the candy apples from Coney Island.

Once you get your sweet treats, stop by the store’s Doughnut Box Experience, with stadium like seating and tables specially designed for selfies.

NYC on the Cheap Tip

  • The store is already drawing crowds, waiting socially-distanced on the sidewalk.
  • Since it’s open 24/7, go early for breakfast, or late-night for a bedtime snack, and avoid the peak daytime crowds.

How Krispy Kreme Keeps Visitors Safe

Capacity in the store is limited. Reserve time slots online to visit the store and remote queueing.

The store is also adhering to all NYC and CDC COVID-19 safety guidelines.

That includes requiring face masks for anyone entering the store, protective barriers between guests and employees, social distancing markers, regular cleaning and sanitizing, and temperature checks of employees before their shift.

Also, you can place an order online or via the Krispy Kreme app and pick up your doughnuts from the 24-hour curbside pick-up window.

The store is just a few blocks from the #1, 2 3 and A and C subway lines, so you can be home in a jiffy with your fresh-from-the-oven treats.
