Stories of Heroes: African American Scientists Virtual Program

Join the NYPL  for a read aloud of books about inspirational African American scientists: Neil deGrasse Tyson, Mae Jemison, and Raye Montague. for children ages 4-6.
 
This online program is geared toward parents/caregivers and their children. Both the parent/caregiver and the child must be present during the program: unaccompanied adults or children will be asked to leave the program. When registering for this program, parents/caregivers should use their information.

Stories of heroes: Famous African American Athletes

Join us for a read aloud of books about inspirational African American Athletes: Roberto Clemente, Jackie Robinson, and Michael Jordan. for children ages 4-6.

The Color Black in History and Fashion

The Color Black in History and Fashion - The National Arts Club

Replete with meanings and messages the color black has been donned by princes and priests, rebels and renegades, artists and intellectuals for centuries. Black, ubiquitous in fashion today, has a long history as the color of choice.

Join art historian Carmela Spinelli for an exploration of the origins of this mysterious color in garments and how black, as Coco Chanel said, “… has it all.”
