Even though the snow from last weekend’s storm is gone, there will be plenty of ice on Feb. 11th for the annual Central Park Ice Festival, with a FREE ice-carving demo of a favorite statue and a silent disco to dance around it.

The ice carving is during the day, and the disco is at dusk, when the ice statue is lit with multi-colored lights.

Watch ice-carving artists from Okamoto Studio use electric chain saws, chisels, and picks to transform more than 6,000 pounds of ice into a glistening replica of Alice in Wonderland, one of Central Park’s most iconic statues, and a favorite of kids for generations.

As night falls, revel among colorful lights as the Mall becomes a vibrant silent disco with live DJs, all to celebrate the preservation efforts of the Central Park Conservancy.

It’s a dance party with headphones; you choose the music. Starting at 5:00 pm, three live DJs take the stage at the same time, playing the best of the 80s, early 90s, and Top 40 hits. You choose the channel with your favorite music genre and dance the night away. The glowing, color-coded headsets show which music other partygoers are listening to, so you can dance along with your friends.

  • Headphones will be given out on a first come, first served basis, and quantities are limited. Open to all ages. No bag/coat check available. An ID or credit card is required to check out a pair of headphones. ID will be given back when headphones are returned. In the unlikely event that you lose the headphones, there is a $100 replacement fee on site.

The FREE Central Park Ice Festival is Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017, 3pm to 7pm, at the Naumberg Bandshell, mid-park at 72nd St.

It’s a good idea to RSVP, just so Central Park has an idea of how many people to plan for.

You are invited to a party in the park. Central Park, the world’s best urban park. Dress warmly.
