Gett is gifting New Yorkers free ride credits equal to what they paid in Uber Surge fees with their new Surge Sucks program. Gett guarantees predictable flat-rate pricing, and the new refund program steps up their stance against surge fees, which are confusing and often an expensive surprise on your credit card.

Through the Surge Sucks program, Uber users can receive a Gett credit equivalent to their Uber Surge for any ride previously taken in NYC.

To participate, just sign up at SurgeSucks.com and then forward their Uber surge receipts to Gett. Gett will then send the customer free ride credit equal to the total surge amount.

You can also e-hail a licensed NYC yellow or green taxi with the two new

free taxi e-hail apps.

Credits will be rounded up to the nearest $5 increment (e.g. $80.64 in surge fees will equate $85 in Gett credit), and riders are welcome to submit multiple surge receipts from either Uber or Lyft, up to a cumulative total of $100.

“We’re excited to launch our Surge Sucks program to further position Gett as the surge-free alternative to Uber,” Gett CEO Shahar Waiser told NYC on the Cheap. “By offering $10 rides in Manhattan anywhere below 110th Street, in addition to fair and predictable pricing throughout the city, Gett is committed to providing New Yorkers with affordable flat rates that they can rely on, no matter the weather, traffic, or demand.”

To add a little friendly competitive component to the program, Gett is also offering a $1,000 cash prize to the rider (a.k.a. #surgevivor) with the single highest surge submission. A scoreboard on SurgeSucks.com will track all surge submissions from participants.

The announcement of Gett’s Surge Sucks program comes in the midst of the New York City Council’s debate over whether surge pricing should be regulated or limited to ensure New Yorkers have the right to affordable cars on-demand, regardless of traffic, demand, or weather.

Gett believes surge pricing is unfair to passengers. When Uber surges, many of us are priced out of the market, just when we need a ride the most. Gett’s flat-rate pricing means riders know upfront what they’ll pay every time they ride.

You can get a Gett car the same way as an Uber. Download the Gett app for free on iOS and Android.
