NYC Free & Cheap Week: Best Events July 17-21

best of new york_nyconthecheap.comCut the cost of living in New York City or visiting the greatest city in the world with FREE and cheap events every day of the week. Here’s what’s on the schedule for Monday to Friday, July 17th to 21st, including family-friendly events, including FREE outdoor movies and concerts, and the chance to dance outdoors under the stars all week all summer.

Monday

HBO Summer Film Series in Bryant Park continues on Mondays through mid-August, with flicks filmed in NYC or about NYC.  This week, it’s Wall Street, a classic about greed and fake news.  Next week, its Pillow Talk, with Rock Hudson and Doris Day, a romcom about advertising world of Madison Ave.

Tuesday

Intrepid Movie Series – Bring your own seating for these screenings on the flight deck.  This week, it’s the lunacy of Anchorman. 

Sunset Salsa – The dance floor heats up when the sun goes down at Hudson River Park every Tuesday in July and August. FREE beginner Salsa lessons at 6:30pm, and FREE dancing with some of NYC’s best DJs starting at 7:15pm, at Pier 63 at the foot of 23rd St. on the Hudson River.  Sunset and river breezes included.

 Wednesday

Hudson RiverFicks – Big Hit Wednesdays include FREE popcorn, at Pier 63.  This week, a kids’ favorite, The Lego Movie.

Uptown Bounce – The annual outdoor street fair of the Museum of the City of New York and Museo del Bario, on four successive Wednesdays starting this week, each week with a different theme. This week, dance to a fiery mashup of Latin-infused beats and enjoy cocktails on the terrace, art-making activities, gallery tours, and salsa lessons. Next week the theme is 90s music and dance. FREE, and includes museum admission.  Registration is required to ensure space.

This event is free and open to the public but pre-registration is required. Includes Museum admission.

The Circus Comeback: Brooklyn’s Nouveau Sideshows – Join the founder of the Mermaid Parade and unofficial “Mayor of Coney Island,” Dick Zigun, for a slideshow about the history of the burlesque, sword swallowers and more circus in NYC, including at the famous sideshows at Coney Island.  6:30pm at the Brooklyn Historical Society. Tickets are just $5 (free for members).

Thursday

Broadway in Bryant Park – Spend your lunch hour enjoying performers from top Broadway and Off-Broadway shows sing and dance the best numbers from their shows.

Immigration Policy and its Imact on Food – This is a timely discussion at the Museum of Food, exploring everything from the Chinese Exclusion Act of a previous generation to today’s proposed ban on Muslims from specific nations of the Middle East. Presented in conjunction with the Street Vendor Project and the Urban Justice Center, at the Museum of Food in Brooklyn. Ticket are $20, and $10 for students and seniors.

Movies With a View – In Brooklyn Bridge Park.  Today, Casablanca with Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman, what many consider the best – or one of the five or ten best – films ever made.  Here’s looking at you, kid!

Everybody Tango –  Enjoy a FREE Argentine tango lesson at 6:45pm and 7:45pm by instructors at Strictly Tango NYC.  Dancing to to music by a tango DJ is from 8:15pm, outdoors under the stars at West Harlem Pier, 125th St. at the Hudson River.  Part of the Summer on the Hudson Festival of events.  Also next Thursday, the final Everybody Tango of the 2017 season.

Friday Freebies
