Sample whiskeys from and foods from Scotland at the annual Robert Burns Day celebration in Soho. One of those tastes should encourage a toast to the man who wrote Auld Lang Syne. Pours include Macallan, Glenfiddich, Glenlivet and Talisker, including a couple of rare 20-year-plus reserve and single cask varieties.
Robert Burns Day is 2pm to 4pm Saturday, Jan 23, at The Astor Center in Soho. Tickets are $79; there are no discounts.
These are all single malts, including Macallan 18 Year, Oban Little Bay Single Malt, Glenfiddich 21 Year Gran Reserva, and Lagavulin 16 Year Scotch, and distillers are on hand to discuss the history and uniqueness of their pours.
The whiskeys are complimented with Scottish food including haggis.
Do not expect or ask for ice or mixers. That’s heresy, like putting ketchup on pastrami.
Single malts are sipped neat, perhaps with a wee dram – drop – of water. I learned that years ago when I sipped my way through Scotland’s Whisky Trail, from Inverness to Glasgow.
