Update: Where to Get a Job Now

POSTED BY
Evelyn Kanter

where to get a job nowIf you are one of the millions of New Yorkers who have lost your job or had your hours cut, you may be able to get a job now at one of the many companies struggling to keep up with increased workloads.

New York City is hiring temporary employees immediately to work in public and private hospitals and deliver meals to housebound New Yorkers.

The hospital jobs are non-medical, such as transporting patients, clerical and other support work, including cleaning services.

NYC also is hiring licensed drivers to deliver food to housebound New Yorkers in need, including seniors and physically challenged.

Hospital jobs pay $20 an hour or more, for up to 30 hours a week.

The immediate need is for 500 people, with additional jobs as the system expands from NYC’s public hospitals to private ones.

The jobs are temporary, starting with 90-day assignments.

“We want to get through this crisis and help people get to the other side so we are establishing a new initiative to hire New Yorkers to do absolutely critical and heroic work in our public hospital system. We will also be expanding that work with voluntary and private hospital…You can apply right away, and we need you right away,” he said.” Mayor de Blasio said in a news briefing over the weekend.

Drivers who register to participate in the NYC Food Delivery program must:

  • Be a Valid/Current TLC  or DMV Driver Licensee
  • Be at least 18 years or older
  • Be eligible to work in the United States
  • Have a valid Social Security number
  • Be able to perform heavy physical labor

These jobs pay $15-20 an hour.  The driver delivery job also pays $5 per mile (no tolls are involved in the work)

The Taxi & Limousine Commission (TLC) also needs drivers to deliver meals to housebound New Yorkers,  starting from the Basketball City, Brooklyn, and Al Oerter sites.

Routes finished at Hunts Point, Kingsbridge, West Bronx, Jefferson + Pelham (Manhattan), Ozone Park, and SI.

Pay is $53 per route.
