Websites based in the USA are going dark at 9:30 AM Eastern time today, December 21, 2012. No, it’s not the Mayan Acopalypse — it is one minute of silence and respect for the 26 children, teachers and school officials massacred at 9:30 AM Eastern time one week ago today in Newtown, Conn. Church bells in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut also will ring for one minute at 9:30 AM. NYC on the Cheap might be one of the sites going dark — the company that hosts NYCOTC has not alerted us one way or the other. Some NYC area Radio and TV stations — including WCBS Radio where I used to be the on-air consumer reporter — will go silent for the minute, or broadcast the tolling of bells.
If you feel strongly about controling the sale and access of military-assault weapons and large volume bullet clips, let your Congressman, Senator and the White House know. The massacre of 20 little children in their schoolrooms and six adults who tried to protect them has re-opened the conversation about gun control, including re-instituting the ban on sales of assault weapons. Click here to sign a White House petition for gun control.
