The Intrepid Museum is celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the commissioning of the USS Intrepid this weekend with four days of special events that include the homecoming of former crew members. Before the USS Intrepid became the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, she saw service in World War Two and afterward.
The Homecoming Weekend is August 16-18 and open to the public, and will feature programs and events specifically tailored for our Former Crew Members and their families.
The highlight of the weekend is the 70th Commissioning Anniversary Ceremony, on August 16 at 11:00am (time subject to change). There are special education demonstrations and tours throughout the weekend, and special Pop-Up exhibit on the ship’s history. The museum also will be collecting oral histories, and visitors will have the chance to meet former crew members and museum staff.
