New Tribeca TV Festival is Sept. 22-24

POSTED BY
Evelyn Kanter

Tribeca TV festival The folks behind the Tribeca Film Festival have organized the first-ever Tribeca TV Festival, with the same mix of premier screenings, interviews with actors and directors, and other special events. Th schedule includes such critically acclaimed shows as The Night of (HBO), The Handmaid’s Tale (Hulu), Mr. Robot (USA Network), and a preview of the Will & Grace reboot.

The Tribeca TV Festival offers a wide range of programming previewing the new fall/winter season of network and cable TV and streaming media, from 80s nostalgia to badass mamas on a mission, September 22-24.

Other festival highlights include a special conversation with Will & Grace stars Debra Messing, Eric McCormack, Sean Hayes and Megan Mullally and show creators Max Mutchnick and David Kohan, before the highly-anticipated reboot this fall.

There’s also a sneak peek of Better Things (FX) followed by a conversation with Emmy-winner Pamela Adlon and co-creator Louis C. K. , and the series premiere of ABC’s Ten Days in the Valley, followed by a conversation with star and Executive Producer Kyra Sedgwick.

And, Creators for Change, a special event with creators of programming that tackles sensitive social issues.

The three-day TV festival is at Cinepolis Chelsea, 260 West 23rd St.  See the daily schedule and trailers here.

More than 400 scripted TV shows are produced annually in the USA for broadcast on both traditional TV and cable networks and services such as Netflix, Amazon and Hulu, prompting some reviewers to call it a golden age of television.‎

And you may have heard that Apple reportedly has set aside $1 Billion for original content and to produce up to 10 new shows over the next year.

Actor Robert De Niro, who co-founded the Tribeca Film Festival in 2002 to rejuvenate lower Manhattan, said in a statement announcing the new festival, “Ten years ago we wouldn’t have needed a TV festival. Now, with the change in the TV landscape, both the quality and quantity of shows, it makes sense,”

De Niro is among many Oscar-winning stars, including Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman and Michael Douglas who are making waves on the small screen.

De Niro has been nominated for his first Emmy Award for his role as disgraced financier Bernard Madoff in HBO television film “The Wizard of Lies.”

What will you be watching this fall on TV or live streaming?
