Lower Manhattan will be tied up in blue Tuesday morning, February 8th, to celebrate Super Bowl XLVI champs New York Giants. The ticker tape parade up the Canyon of Heroes begins at West Street and Battery Place at 11 AM, proceeding north on Broadway, ending at Lafayette/Duane Street. As with the annual New Year’s Eve celebration in Times Square, get there early for a good spot, be ready for security screenings of large backpacks and such, and be aware of street closings, subway closings and more. Here’s what to expect, besides loud cheering by New York Giants fans and tons of ticker tape —
- NYPD will begin street closings on Broadway several hours before the 11 AM parade start.
- Avoid driving into the area, and use public transportation. There are numerous subway stops within steps of the route, including Wall St., and Chambers St.
- The MTA will be either closing certain subway exists or by-passing stations depending on crowds and buses will be re-routed depending on street closures. Check the MTA website for specifics.
- Employees of offices in buildings along the route should be sure to carry business identification at all times, so you can get to work.
- Pedestrians will be able to cross Broadway at the following locations: Exchange Alley, Cedar Street, Cortlandt Street, Fulton Street and Reade Street.
- Buildings with scaffolds, sidewalk sheds, rooftops and setbacks fronting Broadway may not allow anybody to use those structures during the parade.
- Nothing except ticker tape, or other shredded paper, should be thrown from building windows, if you are lucky enough have an office window that actually opens
