Pucker up to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II at what may be the world’s largest group kiss, in Times Square.
The Kiss-In is held every five years, when the romantic and the patriotic re-enact the the legendary and celebratory lip-lock between a U.S. sailor and nurse, captured forever on the cover of LIFE Magazine.
The famous victory kiss occurred on August 14, 1945 on Military Island, at the intersection of Broadway and Seventh Avenue between 43rd and 44th Streets, and that’s where it will be re-enacted by hundreds of couples, at 11AM on August 14, 2015.
If you and a significant other want to be part of this memorable event, likely to be covered by all the NYC news media, and probably beyond, you must register to guarantee space. The first 200 registered couples to arrive will receive sailor caps and roses.
The Times Square Alliance is inviting all generations and of all types of couples to celebrate again in Times Square, in honor of the US Armed Forces and in celebration of the universal ideals of peace, love and hope.
A special invitation to the Times Square Kiss-is extended to couples whose kisses bridge boundaries, be they religious, political, racial, national or otherwise, as well as veterans of WWII, returning veterans from the Iraq War, and couples in costumes commemorating the original 1945 kiss.
The first 200 couples to arrive will receive sailor caps and roses.
Seward Johnson’s 25 foot statue of the iconic kiss, “Embracing Peace”, will also return to the Square for this year’s event.
