Go swing dancing in Harlem, where it all began, to a live orchestra, for just $10. On Thursday, May 9th, the Cab Calloway Orchestra plays for your dancing pleasure at the fabled Alhambra Ballroom. The Cab Calloway Orchestra is led by his grandson, Cris Calloway Brooks. There’s a cash bar and food available, along with a spacious dance floor to strut your stuff. The dance is sponsored by Jazzmobile, and part of Harlem Shrines week focusing on the sounds and steps that put Harlem on the world music map with names like Basie, Ellington, Webb, Fitzgerald, Calloway. This is a friendly crowd, and you can go without a partner, since there are plenty of dancers to ask — or who will ask you. Event website. The Alhambra Ballroom is at 2116 Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd., otherwise known as Seventh Avenue, at 126th St.
See you on the dance floor.
