Go swing dancing in Harlem, where it all began, to a live dance band, for just $20, including a FREE lindy lesson from Harvest Moon Ball Champions David Butts and Joya James/Joyce Bailey (1962 and 1969). The annual Harvest Moon Ball swing dance is sponsored by the Harlem Swing Dance Society is Saturday, Oct. 19th, at the Lt. Joseph P. Kennedy Community Center. 34 West 134th Street. bet. Lenox & Fifth Avenues, starting at 8 p.m. The dance band is Ed Pazant (of the Cotton Club Allstars and The Pazant Brothers) and his Jazz Friends, playing swing and jazz classics that will get you moving.
The evening includes a special ceremony honoring Harlem’s lindy hop legends, including Sugar Sullivan, Barbara Billups, George Sullivan and Mama Lou Parks, who inspired generations of swing dancers long before anybody heard of Dancing With the Stars. Event website.
