Happy New Year wishes from Starbucks come with a price increase. The chain is increasing prices by 10 cents or more in NYC, Washington, DC and the so-called Sun Belt, which includes Florida. For whatever reason, Starbucks is not increasing prices on all its coffee products or all its locations, just selected products and selected markets. So, while the price of a regular tall coffee and a tall latte go up, the price of a regular brewed grande or grande latte does not. Starbucks isn’t raising prices in the Midwest or Pacific Northwerst, California, or Hawaii, because it did that already, in October. Although ten cents doesn’t sound like much, it adds up if you have a Starbucks habit. According to CNN Money, Starbucks earned $1.7 Billion in profits for the fiscal year ending October 2011. Yes, billion. And Starbucks stock is at an all-time high. You would think that with a $1.7 Billion profit and Starbucks stock at an all-time high they could lower prices, instead of raising them.
