There’s just no end to what airlines are charging us for our bags. Spirit Airlines is hiking the price of carry-0n bag to $100 in November, 2012. That’s for a bag that needs to go into an overhead bin. Carry-ons that can fit under the seat will continue to be free. Right now, the low-cost carrier charges $45 for a carry-on bag. Beginning Nov. 6th, if you don’t buy overhead space when you buy your ticket online, or at a kiosk before you check in, it will cost you $100 at the gate — which can can be more than the price of the ticket itself. And Spirit Airlines is raising the price of kiosk check-in too — from $40 to $50. And that’s not all — online check-ins for bags are going up between $2 and $10, along with the cost of curbside check-in and other fees. Spirit is one of two airlines that charge for carry-ons; the other is Allegiant. According to MSN Money, Spirit’s average revenue from fees per passenger on a round-trip flight is more than $100. The sky-high baggage charge is on the Spirit Airlines website — but you have to scroll all the way down the page to find it. Spirit Airlines also charges $100 to book a free ticket earned on your frequent flyer miles program, also one of the highest charges in the airline business. An NYC OTC thumbs down on Spirit Airlines.
