See the Tony Awards FREE in Times Square tonight on the giant video screens. The annual Broadway awards show is being broadcast from Radio City Music Hall, and simulcast in the Crossroads of the World, rain or shine, so let’s hope for shine.
Viewing is on the huge Clear Channel Spectacolor screens at Duffy Square at the Broadway Plaza between 46th and 48th streets, in the heart of Times Square. The pre-show program begins at 4pm, and includes live performances by Broadway stars Justin Guarini and Deborah Cox, singing “I’ve Got Rhythm” and “On Broadway,’” “Easy as Life” from Aida, and Jeanna de Waal singing “History of Wrong Guys” from Tony-award winner Kinky Boots.
As the song from past Tony winner “Cabaret” says, you can “sit alone in your room”, or join the crowd in Times Square. Quoting Cabaret is appropriate, since the Tony Award show is being hosted by Alan Cumming, star of the just-closed Cabaret revival (and one of the supporting stars of the CBS hit series The Good Wife), and fellow Broadway Musical and TV star Kristin Chenoweth.
Get there in time to grab one of the chairs in the pedestrian island, or sit on the famous Red Steps.
Festivities will also include live performances from Broadway stars Justin Guarini and Deborah Cox, singing “I’ve Got Rhythm” and “On Broadway,’” Deborah Cox singing “Easy as Life” from Aida, and Jeanna de Waal singing “History of Wrong Guys” from Tony-award winner Kinky Boots.
