It is more than a piece of football history. The trophy was designed and hand-crafted in Newark at the Tiffany & Co. silver factory, at a time when the city was when the city was the center of the American metal crafts industry and home to the design workshops of world famous jewelry goldsmiths and silversmiths such as Tiffany and Krementz.
The original Vince Lombardi Trophy is part of a special exhibit The City of Silver and Gold from Tiffany to Cartier, focusing on that part of Newark’s history, for more than a century beginning in the early 1800s. The original Vince Lombardi Trophy, won by the Green Bay Packers, will be on view through March 30, 2014 as part of the festivities around Super Bowl XLVIII being played nearby at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford.
The Newark Museum is walking distance from the Newark train station, on either Amtrak or NJ Transit.
