What does a Scotsman wear under his kilt? You might find out at the annual NYC Tartan Day Parade, Saturday, April 5th, on Fifth Avenue, when New York City celebrates all things Scottish, from tartans and kilts to bagpipes and single malts. The parade marches up Sixth Avenue, from 45th to 55th St. starting at 2 pm. Marchers include the West Point Cadets Pipes & Drums.
The parade is just part of the annual NYC celebration of Scottish history and culture.
Through April 23rd, see huge 15-foot tall horse sculptures by Glasgow-born artist Andy Scott in Bryant Park. As huge as they are, they are scale models of even larger equine sculptures, The Kelpies.
Through April 27th, see a special exhibit about the Jews of Scotland at the 92nd St. Y. The Scottish Jewish community dates back to the 1700s and, despite being small, itt has produced scientists and doctors, judges and MPs, artists and writers, farmers and foresters, kilt makers and whisky distillers.
