New York City has lost its biggest fan. Former Mayor Ed Koch has passed away peacefully at the age of 88. He led my hometown for three terms, through some of the darkest days NYC has ever known, including a transit strike and city bankruptcy fears. Ed Koch was outspoken, energetic, and loved this city perhaps more than any person in its history. You could disagree with him – many people did – but it would be hard to find anybody who didn’t love him for his fierce dedication to New York City, New York State, and the USA, which he served proudly as a soldier in World War II, as City Councilman, Congressman, and NYC Mayor. His legacy lives on. R.I.P. Ed Koch, NYC’s 105th mayor. Click here for a full story on Ed Koch in the New York Times.
