Celebrate the 100th Birthday of tenor Richard Tucker in the park named for him across the street from Lincoln Center and the Met Opera, where he was a star performer. Tomorrow’s FREE weekly Wednesday concert in Richard Tucker Park features a special tribute by the Opera Collective, between noon and 2 p.m. There also are several other FREE birthday celebrations later in the day at Lincoln Center and nearby in Central Park:
4 p.m. – United States Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg joins Barry Tucker, one of Richard Tucker’s sons, and the tenor Neil Schicoff, in a discussion of Richard Tucker’s life and music. That’s at the Julliard School, 60 Lincoln Center Plaza.
7:30 p.m. – A concert by winners of awards and grants by the Richard Tucker Foundation, which supports talented young musicians and operatic singers. That’s at the Naumberg Bandshell in Central Park, mid-park at 72nd St.
The FREE outdoor performances in Richard Tucker Park continue every Wednesday through the end of September, with different local musicians and musical themes each week. See the Lincoln Square BID website for the full schedule. Richard Tucker Park is the triangle between Broadway and Columbus Ave. at 66th St. Accompanying the musicians is YogaWorks, which provides free restorative stretch sessions in between music sets for those looking for some additional lunch time relaxation.
