Are you for or against shutting down Indian Point, the nuclear power plant on the Hudson River? Make your feelings known on Thursday, August 11th, at a rally at Dag Hammerskjold Plaza, 47th Street, between First and Second Avenues. More than 20 million people live and work within 50 miles of Indian Point, which is 35 miles from Times Square. The recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan, and the subsequent Fukushima nuclear emergency, have prompted politicians, scientists, environmentalists and others renew calls for Indian Point to be shut down, including Gov. Andrew Cuomo. It is one of the oldest nuclear power plants in the United States — it opened for business in 1962. The rally is scheduled for 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.. One of the rally sponsors is Riverkeeper, the environmental group one of whose founders is Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
