When the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge—better known as Prince William and Kate Middleton—visit NYC next month, we hope they have time to visit some top tourist destinations.
These are must-see and must-do for them and baby Prince George in between official appearances to support several charities and environmental initiatives.
Officially, they will visit the 9-11 Memorial at the World Trade Center, and attend the Brooklyn Nets-Cleveland Cavaliers game at the Barclays Center and the St. Andrews Anniversary Gala Dinner at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
These other popular NYC tourist destinations are for their personal interests:
Prince William is an officer of the Royal Navy, so sailing aboard the NYC fleet, better known as the Staten Island Ferry, would be in order, especially because it offers a close-up view of the Statue of Liberty, the worldwide symbol of freedom and liberty.
Kate Middleton is known to support young British designers, so a visit to the museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology would show her what the next generation of fashion icons has up its sleeves. Plus, it’s one of many FREE museums in New York City
Baby Prince George is known to enjoy petting zoos, so a visit to the petting zoo at Central Park will let him the 16-month-old toddle around happily with ducklings, geese and goats. Plus, the vintage Central Park Carousel is just a few steps away.
The Royal Family also should enjoy the holiday lights that make NYC extra magical at this time of year, including, of course, the world-famous Rockefeller Center Christmas tree, being lit a few days before their visit, on December 3rd.
The royal visit is December 7-9, and will be the first official visit by either of them to NYC, and the first ever for the Duchess.
Here’s the official announcement from London, complete with British spelling of some words that we Americans spell differently:
“The charitable themes will include promoting sustainable conservation issues with a particular focus on collaborative working to tackle the illegal wildlife trade, and also supporting organisations which reflect Their Royal Highnesses’ interest in young people’s mental health and the importance supporting disadvantaged young people from an early age. As Patron of the University of St Andrews 600th Anniversary Campaign, The Duke accompanied by The Duchess will also attend the University’s 600th Anniversary Gala Dinner in New York. In support of UK Government initiatives, The Duke and Duchess will attend events that celebrate the successful partnerships between the UK and USA in the technology and creative industries sectors.”
Prince William will be going to Washington D.C. one day while the Duchess and baby George stay in NYC.
“Her Royal Highness will be accompanied by The First Lady of New York City, Chirlane McCray, on a visit to a local child development centre. They will learn about how this organisation fosters the healthy development of children and families by providing high-quality mental health and educational services, which is an issue strongly supported by The First Lady. Her Royal Highness will also attend a lunch, hosted by the British Consul General in New York, to celebrate the achievements of a successful British community in New York from the culture, arts, hospitality and business sectors.”
We hope William, Kate and George enjoy their visit to New York City. Everybody does.
