Paramount Pictures is offering the film “Selma“ for FREE streaming through June 30.
The film chronicles the tumultuous period in 1965, when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. led a dangerous campaign to secure equal voting rights in the face of violent opposition.
The epic march from Selma to Montgomery culminated in President Lyndon Johnson signing the Voting Rights Act of 1965, one of the most significant victories for the civil rights movement.
The critically-acclaimed film was directed by Ava DuVernay and released originally in 2014. It stars David Oyelowo as Dr. King, who was assassinated in 1968.
Warner Bros. has made the award-winning 2019 legal drama “Just Mercy”, about the wrongful murder conviction of an African-American man, also available for FREE streaming throughout June, also in response to the death of George Floyd.

In a statement, Paramount Pictures said, “We hope this small gesture will encourage people throughout the country to examine our nation’s history and reflect on the ways that racial injustice has infected our society. The key message of the film is the importance of equality, dignity and justice for all people.
“Fifty-five years after the historic marches from Selma, as we witness the expression of decades of collective pain, we should reflect on Dr. King’s words: “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We hope this small gesture will encourage people throughout the country to examine our nation’s history and reflect on the ways that racial injustice has infected our society.
The key message of Selma is the importance of equality, dignity and justice for all people. Clearly, that message is as vital today as it was in 1965.”
You can rent the movie at no cost on most digital platforms in the USA, including Prime Video, Apple TV, YouTube, FandangoNOW, Redbox and Google Play.
