The New York Public Library is selling off some of its rare and vintage 33rpm record collection this week. The LPs represent decades of unsolicited donations, for which the Library already has at least one copy in great condition. The sale is to help clear space in its 22,000 record collection to bring in more unique materials, and also to help raise funds to purchase those new materials.
Whether you are a hardcore collector of foreign classical releases, lover of 70s country music or 40s Big Band sound, Funk aficionado, or devotee of Ronald Reagan’s spoken work, you’ll find something to appeal.
The record sale is Thursday through Saturday, August 8 to 10, at The Rodgers and Hammerstein Archives of Recorded Sound, at the NYPL for the Performing Arts in Lincoln Center. Credit cards accepted only on purchases of $100 or more, and you are asked to bring your own bags or boxes to haul away the sound of music and the spoken word.
You can see some of what’s available on the NYPL for the Performing Arts pages on Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr. If you see something you want, let them know and they’ll try to set it aside for you.
Hours are:
