New York City’s newest Fairway opens in Kips Bay at 10 am on Friday, December 21, the day the day of the Winter Solstice, and the day the Mayan calendar marks either as the end of the world or the start of a new calendar. Hurricane Sandy somewhat delayed the opening of this latest outpost of he local NYC supermarket and purveyor of fresh produce, gourmet foods and almost unlimited choices of coffee been varieties, because Fairway was pre-occupied with the destruction of the Red Hook store and helping feed its Brooklyn neighbors and customers who lost their homes. Crain’s New York Business reports that 100 displaced Fairway Red Hook employees will be working at the new Kips Bay location.
Fairway Kips Bay occupies 42,000 square feet of space on Second Avenue at 30th Street. Find special grand opening deals on Twitter @FairwayMarket, hashtag #KipsBay
