Temperatures are dropping, and New York City has opened emergency warming centers in each borough to help elderly Hurricane Sandy victims with no heat stay warm. Unfortunately, these centers are only open during the day, which means you still have to sleep in the cold. The list follows, and is also on the NYC official website.
- Bronx — Riverdale Y Senior Center, 5625 Arlington Avenue, Bronx, 9 AM – 5 PM
- Brooklyn — Council Center for Senior Citizens, 1001 Quentin Road, Brooklyn, 9 AM – 3PM
- Upper East Side Manhattan — Lenox Hill Innovative Senior Center, 343 East 70th Street, Manhattan, 9 AM – 5PM
- Washington Heights/Inwood, Manhattan — YM/YWHA Innovative Senior Center, 54 Nagle Avenue, 9 AM – 5PM
- Midtown Manhattan — Project Find Woodstock Senior Center, 127 W. 43rd Street, Manhattan, 9 AM – 5 PM
- Staten Island — Senior Guild Luncheon Program, 120 Anderson Avenue, Staten Island, 9 AM- 6 PM
There are buses running to take people to shelters if they need a place to stay warm. Click here for bus pickups times and locations for overnight shelters.
