Get ready for one of NYC’s most popular and most tasty events. The 89th annual Feast of San Gennaro takes over Little Italy and parts of Chinatown for ten days, tonight through Sept 20, for what is arguably New York City’s most famous and largest street fair.
More than 200 vendors include some of the neighborhood’s most famous restaurants serving up everything from sausage and peppers and pizza to zeppoles and gelato.
What started as a one-day event to honor the patron saint of Naples, the San Gennaro Festival now includes carnival games and rides and other kid-friendly activities, a world-famous cannoli-eating competition, and an ongoing schedule of free music performances that range from opera to Doo Wop.
In addition to the food and fun, this is a religious celebration, centered around Sept. 19th, the official Saint Day, with a celebratory Mass at Most Precious Blood Church and a religious procession through the streets. This year’s Grand Marshal is popular TV, film and Broadway actor Tony Danza.

What most of us call the San Gennaro Festival is centered on Mullberry Street, but spills over onto Grand and Mott. Mangia!
