The newest Marshalls in Manhattan opens Thursday, May 8 on the Upper West Side, across the street from where Loehman’s used to be and two blocks from where Filene’s Basement used to be. Both of those beloved discounters have gone out of business, in part because of competition from Marshall’s and its corporate sibling TJMaxx.
The newest Marshalls is at Broadway and 77th St., in the new hot retail corridor between 72nd and 79th that includes DKW Shoes, in the space that once was Filene’s Basement, the original Fairway and Citarella, EMS outdoor and Trader Joe’s.
Another opening of note:
Dairy Queen opens its first Manhattan store in mid-May in Union Square. This will be a two-story location, at 54 West 14th St., between Fifth and Sixth, with seating for 100, soft-serve ice cream, Blizzards, Orange Julius drinks, and the chain’s 5-Buck Lunch. The only other DQ in New York City is in the St. George Terminal of the Staten Island Ferry.
