Besides ringing in the New Year with a couple of million of your closest friends Times Square, there are other free ways to spend the last hours of 2012 and ring in 2013 —
- FREE — Midnight fireworks at Grand Army Plaza in Brooklyn. Click here for the details.
- FREE — Midnight fireworks in Central Park. Best viewing spot is around the Bethesda Terrace.
- FREE — Concert for Peace at Cathedral of St. John the Divine. Open seating, concert starts at 7 p.m. Or, purchased reserved VIP seats.
- FREE — Times Up 12th Annual New Year’s Eve Bike Ride and After Party. Start 2012 on wheels, on a bike or rollerblades, riding from the Washington Square Park arch north to Central Park’s Belvedere Castle. R&R after the ride to watch the fireworks in Central Park followed by music and dancing. This is a BYOB and snacks event. Meet under the Arch at 10 PM, or you can join the group at Madison Park, 23rd and Broadway, around 10:30. Or, just skip the riding entirely and just join the party at Belvedere Castle at 11:45 PM.
