Chunks of Manhattan, Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens will be car-free on Earth Day 2017, next Saturday, April 22, turning huge swaths of roadways into pedestrian-only and bicycle-only pathways.
This green initiative is larger than last year, and complements the annual Summer Streets program, which closes a chunk of Manhattan to cars on Saturdays in August.
Here’s where to go car-free in NYC on Earth Day, borough by borough, from 10AM to 4PM:
Manhattan:
- 30 block of Broadway, from Union Square to Times Square
- parts of St. Nicholas Avenue in Washington Heights
Bronx: Eagle Avenue
Brooklyn: Montague Street
Queens: Shore Boulevard and Woodside Avenue
Thanks to StreetsBlogNYC for advising us about this expanded 2017 program. Broadway, parts of St. Nicholas Avenue in Upper Manhattan, Montague Street in Brooklyn, Shore Boulevard and Woodside Avenue in Queens, and Eagle Avenue in the Bronx will be car-free from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
It’s not clear yet how many cross-streets will also be car-free on those routes, but last year DOT pedestrianized smaller side streets along Broadway.
What about STATEN ISLAND??? Does ANYONE care about the wildlife (both plant and animal) that’s been allowed to go to crap thanks to the politicians here??? WE NEED A DAY WITH ZERO EMISSIONS !!
