NYC museums open July Fourth

May the Fourth be with you! There’s lots to do in NYC on July 4th before heading to the East River for the annual Macy’s fireworks spectacular.

These NYC museums are open July 4, 2017 and not likely to be crowded:

NYC Intrepid Museum_nyconthecheap.comIntrepid Air, Sea and Space Museum

  • Open to 5pm on July 4th
  • Visit a new exhibit on the technology and military and peaceful uses of drones.

American Museum of Natural History

  • Open to 5:45pm on July 4th
  • See more than 20 species of spectacular arachnids in  Spiders Alive exhibit
  • See the great Blue Whale, dinosaurs and more.

NYC museums

Metropolitan Museum of Art

  • Open 10am to 5pm on July 4th
  • Make it a two-fer, and get free same-day admission to The Cloisters, in Washington Heights.

Chihuly at NY Botanical GardenNew York Botanical  Garden

  • Open to 6pm on July 4th
  • See the fantastic Chihuly glass sculpture exhibit

National Museum of the American Indian

  • Open to 5pm on July 4th
  • Part of the Smithsonian, with FREE admission year-round
  • Through July 6, see a special exhibit of Patriot Nations: Native Americans in Our Nation’s Armed Forces, which tells the remarkable history of the Brave American Indian and Alaska Native men and women who have served in the United States military. Native peoples have participated in every major US military encounter from the Revolutionary War to today’s conflicts in the Middle East, serving at a higher rate in proportion to their population than any other ethnic group.m The contributions of Native servicemen and women have been largely unrecognized. This will soon change. The Patriot Nations exhibition announces the development of the National Native American Veterans Memorial, requisitioned by Congress to be placed on the grounds of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, DC.

Brooklyn Botanic Garden
