Harry Potter is taking over New York City.
Getting tickets to the Broadway show Harry Potter and The Cursed Child, now in previews, is a tough act. Another Harry Potter show opens in NYC this fall, sure to be another hot ticket, in equal demand, when ticket sales open later this month.
Harry Potter: A History of Magic includes material from author J.K. Rowling’s personal archives, set models and costumes from the Broadway show, interactive exhibits including Harry Potter trivia games, and more.
It opens at the New York Historical Society on October 5, and will be on view through January 27, 2019.
Harry Potter: A History of Magic is the first American showing of the most successful showcase of all time at the British Library in London.
NYC hot ticket alert: Tickets for timed entry go on sale at noon on April 26, $21 for adults, $16 for seniors (65+), $13 for students, $6 for kids ages 5–13, and free for children to age 4, and include admission to the rest of the museum.
Harry Potter: A History of Magic captures the traditional of folklore and magic at the heart of the popular stories, including century-old magic treasures and rare books, manuscripts, magical objects from the collections of the British Library and from the New York Historical Society, plus original material from Harry Potter publisher Scholastic and from J.K. Rowling’s own archives.
Tickets to the Broadway show are available directly from the theater.

From medieval descriptions of dragons and griffins, to the origins of the sorcerer’s stone, Harry Potter fans can explore the subjects studied at Hogwarts and see original drafts and drawings by J.K. Rowling as well as Harry Potter illustrator Jim Kay.
In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the U.S. publication of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, also on display is illustrator Brian Selznick’s artwork that will appear on the covers of the Harry Potter series to be published by Scholastic later this year.
Also on view to the public for the first time will be Mary GrandPré’s illustrations created for Scholastic’s original editions of the novels.
Costumes and set models from Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, which opens on Broadway in April, will be showcased in the exhibition.
The exhibit features numerous interactive activities designed to delight Harry Potter fans of all ages.
Tickets for monthly fun trivia nights, which will put fans’ knowledge of the Wizarding World to the test, also go on sale on April 26 as well.
Additional family and adult programs will be unveiled in the coming months.

September 2018 marks the 20th anniversary of the U.S. publication of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, and Scholastic kicked off its year-long celebration in January 2018. The Wizarding World will have one of its busiest years ever in the U.S., with the opening of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on Broadway in April; the British Library’s exhibition Harry Potter: A History of Magic, opening at the New York Historical Society in October; and the second Fantastic Beasts movie, The Crimes of Grindelwald, opening in cinemas in November.
The Harry Potter books have sold more than 160 million copies in the U.S. alone and more than 500 million copies worldwide. The books are published in more than 200 territories in 80 languages.
