The World Science Festival 2018 is six days of FREE and ticketed events, including several specifically for kids, so you can explore your inner astronaut, architect, astronomer or rocket scientist, and reflect on the growing importance of science and technology in our lives.
This year highlights some of the incredible achievements of Women in Science, celebrating and exploring their impact on the history and future of scientific discovery.

City of Science – Walk on water, blast balls into orbit, defy gravity and more at this FREE all day fair for all ages Unleash your inner scientist with these interactive demonstrations, hands-on activities, and enormous exhibitions.

Science and Storytime: Bringing Science Books to Life – How are space and sea similar? Is it possible to build a faster paper airplane? Who is Katherine Johnson, and how did she save Apollo 13? What does the vastness of space look like from the confines of a tiny rocket? What makes a beehive–and can you turn the pages of a book into one?
This wide range of questions, and more still, will be answered by children’s book authors Lynn Brunelle, Helaine Becker, Jennifer Swanson, Ken Blackburn, and Mike Vago. Theywill read from and sign their books, and also help you build your own beehives, rockets, and super-fast paper airplanes.

Saturday Night Lights – Enjoy stargazing in Brooklyn Bridge Park with multiple telescopes for planets and stargazing; an LED-lit balloon chain installation, floating overhead and swaying to the changing winds; and world renowned scientists and chefs, including a former White House pastry chef, discussing the vagaries of cooking, eating, and staying alive in outer space.

The Great Fish Count – New York’s waterways are teeming with life — and it’s up to you to find it. Led by top marine scientists and biologists, the Great Fish Count gives attendees of all ages the chance to strap on a pair of waders, cast a net, and discover the underwater world in your own backyard.
- At more than a dozen locations in NYC, Westchester and New Jersey on Saturday, June 2.
- FREE, but registration is encouraged to guarantee space and to manage equipment at each location.
