NYC Free: Tax Prep-A-Thon

free tax prep helpApril 15th will be here before you know it.  Get FREE tax prep assistance in NYC this weekend, in all five boroughs. The Prep-A-Thon offers one-on-one help from IRS certified preparers, from 9am to 9pm, along with financial counseling workshops and FREE activities for kids while their caregivers are getting financial assistance.

The NYC Prep-A-Thon is available to New Yorkers with incomes of $54,000 or less in 2017.

  • Get FREE individual professional financial counseling
  • Get a FREE screening for NYC, New York State and Federal health and human service benefits to find out if your are eligible.

Tax sessions are Saturday, Feb 10 at the following locations. There are no appointments.  Tax prep assistance is first come first serve.  If you are filing a joint return, both spouses must be present.

  • Bronx – Bronx Early College Academy, 250 East 164th St.
  • Brooklyn – Juan Morel Campos Secondary School, 215 Heyward St.
  • Queens – Flushing High School, 35091 Union Street
  • Manhattan – PS 46 Arthur Tappan School, 2987 Frederick Douglass Blvd.
  • Staten Island – Curtis High School, 105 Hamilton Ave.

Identification needed to file

  • Governent-issued photo ID, including IDNYC card, NY State Driver’s license
  • Social Security or Individual Taxpayer identification Numbers (ITN) and birth dates for you, your spouse and your dependents

Proof of income needed to file

  • Forms W-2 from each job you held in 2017
  • Form 1099-INT (interest )
  • Form 1099-DIV (dividends)
  • Form 1099-R (retirement plans)
  • Form W-2G (gambling winnings)
  • Form 1099-G (nemployment)
  • Form SSA-1099 (Social Security benefits)
  • Form 199-MISC (miscellaneous income)
  • Form 1099-B (sale of stock)
  • Form 1098-T (scholarships and grants
  • Form 1099-C (cancellation of debt)
  • Form 1098-T (college or university tuition payments)
  • Form 1098-E (interest paid on student loans)

Additional documents needed to file 2017 tax return

  • 2016 tax return if available
  • Proof of health insurance coverage (Forms 1095-A, 1095-B or 1095-C)
  • Payment records for child care, including the provider’s name, address, Employer Identification Number or Social Security Number
  • Records of cash and non-cash charitable contributions
  • Account and routing numbers for direct deposit of your refund
