If you want to become a US Citizen, or know somebody who does, sign up now for FREE civics and history classes to prepare for the naturalization exam.
The free classes are for legal immigrants with green cards, at the New York Historical Society, part of the museum’s Citizenship Project initiative, in partnership with CUNY’s Citizenship Now!
The goal is to help local legal green card holder immigrants become American citizens through workshops, classes, educational tools, museum guides, and special installations.
Classes are on different days to the week, to accommodate the personal and work schedules of would-be citizens.
Through these courses, made possible by generous grants from the Ford Foundation and the Mellon Foundation, participants will learn about pivotal moments in U.S. history as they examine treasures from New-York Historical’s collections. Nine sessions will take place on-site at New-York Historical this summer at three different times and intensities—weekend immersion, evening program, and weekday program—so participants can choose the class structure that best suits their work and home life:
Beginning July 15: Saturdays, 8:30am-5 pm, 4 weeks
Beginning July 24: Mondays and Wednesdays, 6-8 pm, 8 weeks
Beginning July 25: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6-8 pm, 8 weeks
To sign up for courses, all participants must first attend a mandatory Information Session:
Wednesday, June 28: 6–8 pm
Saturday, July 1: 10 am–12 pm
Saturday, July 1: 2–4 pm
Thursday, July 6: 6–8 pm
