NYC Free: Live at the Archway Concerts

POSTED BY
Evelyn Kanter

nyc free concertsHead to the archway on the Brooklyn side of the Manhattan Bridge on Thursday evenings for 17 weeks of FREE family-friendly music concerts, dance performances, social dance classes and more.  It’s an eclectic mix of local performers and artists, with something to please every kind of musical preference.

Live at the Archway starts this week, on June 8, with the five-member Colombian fusion music ensemble Los Cumpleaños, and ends on Sept 28 with a special reunion show by Japanese pop fusion band Gaijin à Go-Go on September 28, and a circus experience by Big Sky Works in between, on August 17.

Another standout event is the 1920s-inspired jazz ensemble Ghost Train Orchestra and a swing dance class led by Paolo Pasta Lana on August 3, and again on Sept 14 when the lively swing band Hot Sardines gets your toes tapping.  Paolo is one of the top swing, lindy and balboa instructors at You Should Be Dancing in Manhattan, and one of the organizers of Swing Remix, the dance event to live swing bands at JCC Manhattan.

New this year, the Artist Interactive invites the public to engage with a different DUMBO-based artist each week, through a pop-up gallery, “The Space Station,” and through a live art component in which the artist and the public create a collaborative piece together over the course of three hours. This program is presented in collaboration with the DUMBO art gallery This Friday or Next Friday.

Live at the Archway events begin at 6pm.  Unlike other outdoor concerts, it doesn’t matter if it’s raining, because you are under the protected alcove of the archway in DUMBO.  Click here for directions via several subway and bus lines.
