Global Citizen rocks for charity. In addition to the FREE annual Global Citizen concert of superstars in NYC Central Park on Sept. 23rd, the social activist charity has launched a week of events in NYC to support the cause of freedom, justice and education for all, anywhere and everywhere in the world.
The Global Citizen Festival concert features performers including Stevie Wonder, The Chainsmokers and Green Day. Note that tickets are absolutely required for admission, and you have to earn them with small acts of kindness. Find out how to earn your tickets here.
Global Citizen Week features more than 30 events of public speakers, panels, and other musical acts all in support of the Global Citizen initiative, and leading up to the blockbuster concert. Activists, campaigners, and other advocates for change from around the world are participating.
Sample of scheduled events:
Global Citizen Week kicks off with award-winning actor Forest Whitaker and others for “Breaking the Silence: Beyond the Dream”, commemoratng the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “Beyond Vietnam” speech. It’s on Sept. 17th at Riverside Church.
On Sept 18th, performer Annie Lennox receives the 2017 George Harrison Global Citizen Award at NYU’s Skirball Center, for her music and her activisim.
On Sept. 21st, an panel on urban sdanitation and child health at the Tenement Musuem.
