NYC Free: Dance Week Fitness & Ballet Classes

POSTED BY
Evelyn Kanter

NYC Dance Week is an annual ten-day festival of FREE and discounted dance, fitness and wellness classes at participating studios, including Fitness Labs, and a workshop with the Harkness Center for Dance Injuries. It’s a great time to try a new program, from ballet to Pilates.

NYC Dance Week kicks off- literally – with a dance performance and work-out event happening simultaneously in Union Square Park and Brooklyn Borough Hall Plaza.

It ends with Dancer for a Day is a NYC Dance Week initiative that provides inner-city youth facing a unique challenge with the opportunity to experience a day in the life of a professional dancer.

In its third year, Dancer for a Day will choose up to 20 youth, ages 10-15, to participate in a day filled with class taking, a nutritional workshop, lunch, a private performance by and Q&A with a NYC10 dance company.

NYC Dance Week 2018  is June 14-23.

Rules first:

  • You must register online to participate in the overall Dance Week program
  • You must sign up for each class you want to take to receive a pass, which you must print out and bring with you for admission.
  • Depending on the studio, you may print as many passes as you want.
  • Some participating studios offer free classes only to new students.
  • Even with a printed pass, admission to each class is first-come, first-serve, so arrive early enough that the available space has not been filled.
  • Call the studio directly for questions on what to wear, bring, etc. and to confirm the class.

NYC Dance Week schedule of classes and events includes:

Kick-Off Event with Brooklyn Borough President, Eric L. Adams

  • Thursday, June 14, 5pm to 7pm, Brooklyn Borough Hall Plaza
  • Event will include performances, dance class and more
