Today in New York:
Kids Night on Broadway: two-for-one tickets to top Broadway shows, for performances through Thursday, Jan. 15. See this recent NYCOTC posting for full information.
Saturday in New York:
Madam Butterfly: Hear a concert performance of this beloved Puccini opera FREE at the Lincoln Center Library for the Performing Arts. Concert is at 1:30pm, and since there are no reservations, get there in time for a seat. The program features the New York Opera Forum.
Winter Blast: A family-friendly festival of Native American storytelling, crafts and more, at the Museum of the American Indian in Battery Park. Since this is part of the Smithsonian Institutions, it is free always, including for special programs like Winter Blast and film screenings. Museum website.
Sunday in New York
92nd St. Y Open House: FREE arts and crafts workshops, studio tours, and the opportunity to take a FREE class in everything from drawing to ballet to karaoke. RSVP required to ensure space. 1pm to 3pm.
No Pants Subway Ride: The 14th annual No Pants Subway Ride is 3pm to 5pm, for those who want to participate, watch, or avoid the hijinks. You can participate if you are willing to take your pants off on the subway and keep a straight face. Click here for additional rules plus meeting points. This year there are seven meeting points in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens.
The Lady from Shanghai: FREE screening of this classic 1940s film, directed by Orson Welles and starring Welles and Rita Hayworth. 2pm at the Mid-Manhattan Library, across Fifth Avenue from the main branch with the stone lions out front.
