NYC free & cheap weekend April 3-5

POSTED BY
Evelyn Kanter

nyc cheap weekend As always, there’s plenty to do in NYC free and cheap this first weekend of April, including family frendly events. Unless a price is mentioned,  events are FREE. Dress for the thermometer, not for the calendar.

The best free things to do in NYC
any time of year
Today through Sunday in New York:

New York Auto Show: The annual extravaganza of shiny new cars and trucks opens today, for ten days. In addition to dozens of all-new models from major manufacturers, see the Porsche 919 Hybrid race car and the rocket-like Venturi electric car that will seek the world land speed record at Bonneville Salt Flats in a few months.

Saturday in New York:

International Pillow Fight Day 2015: Bring your own, or just watch the mayhem at the annual event in Washington Square Park.  There are rules, which include no bopping in the face, and no bopping people with cameras.  Full details on this recent NYCOTC posting.

Saturday and Sunday in New York:

Smorgasburg: The popular Brooklyn foodie festival returns to the great outdoors this weekend, with more than 75 local vendors selling top quality sodas, gluten-free sodas, seafood and more.  Saturdays are in in East River State Park, and Sundays in Brooklyn Bridge Park.

Fulton Stall Market at the South Street Seaport:  A new farmer’s market and more.  The more includes FREE Saturday morning cartoons for the kids and cooking demonstrations for the grownups.  Details here.

Sunday in New York:

Central Park Walking Tour: Take a guided tour of The Ramble with docents from the Central Park Conservancy, and learn about this 36-acre woodland in the middle of Manhattan. Get tickets here, $15 per person.

Easter Parade 2015: Put on your most fashionable duds, including a spectacular hat, and stroll Fifth Avenue, which becomes a pedestrian-only area between 49th and 57th Streets.
