April is Autism Awareness Month, and Lincoln Center is celebrating with the world’s first month-long arts festival for children on the autism spectrum and their families, beginning next week.
The Big Umbrella Festival features music and dance performances and workshops, and films, including animations, all carefully curated to appeal to and enrich the lives of children on the autism spectrum, and the grown-ups who love and care for them.
The Big Umbrella Festival includes both FREE and ticketed events, will include three original interactive theater productions created especially for autism families, as well as relaxed performances across the Lincoln Center campus.
One of the ticketed events is a movement workshop with the New York City Ballet that concludes with a dance performance by the participating children. Another is a Young People’s Concert with the New York Philharmonic, turning songs into games.
There also will be a FREE symposium and professional development opportunities for artists, arts professionals, and presenters exploring the intersection of the arts and autism, designed to bring the community together around the topic of neurodiversity.
The Big Umbrella Festival is April 10 to May 6, 2018, and is an outgrowth of Lincoln Center Education’s longtime commitment to making art accessible in all forms to diverse audiences.
Ticketed events are $12-$25.
