Yes, Virginia, Santa Claus has brought you many free and cheap ways to enjoy the holiday weekend in New York City. Here are five things that are free and cheap, all $10 or less —
- Take a free walk in midtown to see NYC’s famous, creative and magical department store windows — Macy’s, Lord and Taylor, Bergdorf Goodman, Tiffany’s, and the Lady Gaga windows at Barney’s. And, of course, the world’s largest Menorah at Grand Army Plaza at 59th St. and Fifth Avneue, and the huge crystal snowflake suspended over the intersection of 57th St. and Fifth Avenue.
- Join the Riverside Church Chior and Singers for Christmas carols at spirituals, plus a performance of world holiday music, at Riverside Church, Saturday at 8 PM. Free.
- Go ice skating for free at Citipond at Bryant Park. The skating is free if your bring your own skates, if you have to rent them, that costs, but it’s under $10 per person, including a post-stkating hot chocolate.
- Join the Urban Park Rangers in Central Park for a free, last-minute arts and crafts workshop. Meet at Belvedere Castle at noon Saturday, weather permitting,
- Take the kids to Lincoln Center to see Mary Poppins, the super-cala-fragalistic-ex-pialidocious 1964 film starring Julie Andrews as the airborne nanny and Dick van Dyke as the chimney sweep. Screenings are at the Elinor Bunin Monroe Film Center in Lincoln Center, daily, Saturday, December 24th through Friday, December 30th, at 10:30 AM and 2 PM each day. Tickets are $6.
