If you love dance, from ballet to tap to hip-hop, and if you love films, then the 45th Annual Dance on Camera Festival will have you doing flips and spins. There are on-film performances, documentaries about dancers, filmmaker panels, cutting edge media and art installations and more, including FREE screenings.
The 45th Annual Dance on Camera Festival is Feb. 3-7 at Lincoln Center. Here’s a preview:
The schedule includes the world premiere of David Barba and James Pellerito’s Anatomy of a Male Ballet Dancer, an intimate look at the life and career of Brazilian ballet dancer and partner extraordinaire Marcelo Gomes, celebrating his 20th year with American Ballet Theatre in 2017.
Dance on Camera Festival closes with the North American Premiere of Marie-Hélène Rebois’s In the Steps of Trisha Brown, a tribute to the retired postmodern dance icon that follows her original company as they re-stage one of the choreographer’s most important works.

- Oscar-winning director Jonathan Demme’s Justin Timberlake & The Tennessee Kids, an immersive concert film capturing the final two shows of the pop star’s 20/20 Experience World Tour;
- a tribute to a seminal postmodernist, David Gordon with two made-for-television films shown as part of the New York Public Library of the Performing Arts’s ongoing installation ‘David Gordon: Archiveography – Under Construction’;
- a double bill of landmark dance film Martha Graham: A Dancer’s World, celebrating its 60th anniversary,
- a new restoration of Crises, the only filmed document of Merce Cunningham dancing with his original cast.
