Josephine, a Burlesque Cabaret about Josephine Baker

nyc discount ticketsThe singer, dancer, civil rights pioneer and sexual iconoclast was once the richest black woman on the planet, and this brilliant Off-Broadway musical play honors her legacy. Tymisha “Tush” Harris embodies the legendary artist in a “burlesque cabaret dream-play” that recounts Baker’s journey from Missouri poverty and exploitation (she was married twice before she turned 16) to Parisian high society and Martin Luther King’s March on Washington. Harris makes the audience feel Baker’s pain and pride at every turn, both through her best-known songs, including a heartbreaking rendition of “Bye Bye Blackbird” and a stirring slowed-down reinterpretation of Dylan’s “Times They Are A-Changin'” and heartfelt soliloquies.

  • Get discount tickets for $10 to $19.50 for performances thorugh mid-February, instead of the $39 walk-up price.
