The Memorial Day weekend in NYC is packed with free and frugal family-friendly events. Let’s hope the weather cooperates for all the outdoor events. As always, nothing on the NYCOTC list is more than $20, because we believe you can be cheap and still have fun in the greatest city on the planet. Unless otherwise noted, these NYC events are FREE.
Fleet Week NYC: Tour ships docked at Pier 92, see demonstrations of military technology, search and rescue techniques and more. See the full NYCOTC posting earlier this week for the schedule through Tuesday.
Family Festival at Governors Island: The island opens for the summer season with an all-day event of activities, performances, and more. See the full NYCOTC posting earlier this week.
Frankie 100 swing dancing events: Live music, dance lessons and film screenings celebrating the 100th birthday of legendary swing dancer Frankie Manning. See the full NYCOTC posting earlier this week.
Kings County Memorial Day Parade: – Very likely the largest in NYC, through Bay Ridge, from 87th St. and Third Avenue. Starting at 11AM Monday. Parade website
Reggae on the Boardwalk – Live music and dancing Sunday, starting ay 4 p.m., on the Coney Island boardwalk at West 14th St. Event website.
New York Philharmonic: The 23rd annual Memorial Day concert at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine includes Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5 and Nielsen’s Helios Overture. 8PM Monday, at the Annual Free Memorial Day Concert, at the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine, on Monday, May 26, 2014 at 8 p.m. Tickets are required and will be distributed at 6:00 p.m. the evening of the concert. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis on the day of the performance.
