Cool off with some of the best ice cream on the planet, made right here in New York City. These are three of the best ice cream shops in town for small batch flavors and hand-crafted scoops.
Van Leeuwen Artisan Ice Cream has added locations in Manhattan and Williamsburg location to its original in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn store, and has just sent a brand new ice cream truck to Los Angeles. Van Leewen also offers vegan and gluten-free ice cream. The Van Leeuwen website lists store locations, hours and the gourmet shops that carry pre-packed pints.
Chinatown Ice Cream Factory is a longtime local favorite, where regular flavors include ginger, green tea, red bean and lychee ice cream, and flavors such as vanilla, chocolate and strawberry are considered “exotics”. Chinatown Ice Cream Factory is open 11 AM to 10 PM daily, at 65 Bayard St.
Big Gay Ice Cream still operates its colorful ice cream truck, and lines are likely to be just as long outside its two Village store locations, one east and one west, at 125 E. 7th St. and 61 Grove St. Big Gay Ice Cream also offers up shakes and ice cream sandwiches and also just opened a location in Los Angeles.
