The NY Philharmonic celebrates our vibrant hometown and the musical spirit of New York City with a FREE Virtual Gala.
The evening includes such stellar New Yorkers as Stephen Sondheim, Josh Groban, Emanuel Ax, John Williams, Renée Fleming, and the Phil’s Music Director Jaap van Zweden.
The musical repertoire ranges from Beethoven to Bernstein.
There also will be video of NY Phil Bandwagon, which travels around town bringing the joy of live concerts to the city’s streets, and music by one of the members of the NY Philharmonic’s Very Young Composers program, another one of the community outreach initiatives by New York City’s hometown symphony orchestra.
Here’s a video of a recent NY Phil Bandwagon performance:
Tune in tonight for the virtual gala Celebrating New York City
Thursday, November 19, 2020, at 7:00 PM EST
The program is free, but, of course donations are accepted, because the NY Philharmonic has not been performing since March because of you-know-what, and has cancelled it’s Fall/Winter performances.
One of the beloved things we missed was the annual FREE NY Philharmonic Concerts in the Parks
The NY Phil has been offering FREE virtual concerts.
Where to watch Celebrating New York City:
Broadcast publicly on nyphil.org and on the Philharmonic’s Facebook and YouTube channels.
