The annual New York International Auto Show returns to the Javits in April, with 1,000 new cars and trucks, special displays of new technology, and events for car lovers of all ages.
Here’s a preview, including the vehicles up for awards as best in the world, known as the.World Car Awards
The list contains only foreign cars, including those made in the USA in factories operated by foreign car-makers.
Sadly, there is not one single Ford or General Motors product on this best-in-the-world list of several dozen vehicles.
Top Ten World Car of the Year finalists, in alpha order:
- Hyundai Sonata
- Kia Soul EV
- Kia Telluride
- Land Rover Range Rover Evoque
- Mazda3
- Mazda CX-30
- Mercedes-Benz CLA
- Mercedes-Benz GLB
- Volkswagen Golf
- Volkswagen T-Cross.
2020 World Urban Car finalists
- Kia Soul EV, Mini Electric, Peugeot 208, Renault Clio and Volkswagen T-Cross.
2020 World Luxury Car finalists
- BMW X5, BMW X7, Mercedes-Benz EQC, Porsche 911 and Porsche Taycan.
2020 World Performance Car finalists
- BMW M8, Porsche 718 Spyder/Cayman GT4, Porsche 911, Porsche Taycan and Toyota GR Supra.
2020 World Design Car finalists
- Alpine 110S, Mazda3, Mazda CX-30, Peugeot 208 and Porsche Taycan.
The vehicles are chosen by a group of 86 international jurors, who test-drive, and vote on, the eligible vehicles for the 2020 awards season.
This year marks the 15th year of the World Car Awards’ partnership with the New York Auto Show.

These awards are announced during the two days of previews for the media, April 8 and 9.
